Enhanced Bacteriostatic Properties of Ti Alloys by Surface Nitriding

Abstract Surface nitriding has been widely used to improve the surface physicochemical properties of Ti alloys. However, currently utilized methods, such as laser nitriding, typically require expensive and complicated instruments, which makes a less cost-effective process. Meanwhile, antibacterial surface-nitrided alloy implants have not evaluated. Thereafter, in this study, we were aiming develop an effective, simple, strategy enhance antimicrobial implants. The was realized by wet-chemical etching thermal treatment at controlled conditions. Results showed that above modification treatments exerted significant effects on phase composition morphology newly formed phases samples. Crystalline TiN TiO 2 after treatments. amorphous nitrides oxynitride also presented sample surfaces. surface-modified samples bacterial inhibition effect compared with non-treated ones, attributed released ammonia species from shows promise bacteriostatic property dental orthopedic fields.
